How do I join PennBots

If you are interested in joining PennBots, you can simply come to any of our monthly meetings and join there. You can also use our online membership form.

Do I need to know anything about robotics to join

No, we welcome everyone who has an interest in robotics to join PennBots. We have many members who are knowledgable and willing to teach you how to get started.

Is it expensive to build a robot

The costs of building a comptetitive robot can add up. To get started many people buy and "hack" inexpensive R/C toys. Although this is the least expensive option, it does have drawbacks.

What are the drawbacks to "hacking" inexpensive R/C toys

Hacking R/C toys is one option for controlling a bot. The major drawbback is that R/C toys usually come on one of two frequencies (27 and 49 MHz). If you have two bots both controlled by the same frequency they will interfere with each other and cause proplems controlling the bots.

What are the benefits of joining Pennbots

Shared knowledge, expertise, and tools. Monthly meetings that will include robot clinics and "friendly" competition.
